A Guide for Strategic Intercession - 2008 Federal Election
With the nation being called to the polls on October 15th, we have a month to mobilise the greatest wave of prayer ever to break upon Canada! Many prayer ministries are already gearing up and uniting to release a trumpet call- a sound to stir the nation to prayer!
This is a time for everyone to participate in prayer and action, not just those that have a calling to intercession or activism. If everyone joins in we could see Canada take a giant step towards righteousness and the Kingdom of God. If we don’t -we simply forfeit victory.
But how do we pray?
Perhaps you have a heart to pray but lack exposure to the political arena, so are uncertain how to pray strategically. To address this need we have listed key prayer points that we encourage you to daily lift before the Lord. You are welcome to distribute this prayer bulletin through any means, print, photocopy, forward by email, post on your website, include in your church bulletin. However we can, let’s together mobilise the nation into a massive move of focused prayer!!
Strategic Election Prayer to Advance Righteousness:
1. Pray for the Candidates that are running on a platform of righteousness (regardless of party affiliation).
a. Pray that the Lord gives them grace, wisdom, good
health and endurance over the next month.
b. Pray for many volunteers to step forward and help in
the campaigns.
c. Pray for protection from spiritual warfare that would
attack the candidates, their families and key workers.
d. Pray for full provision of all finances and resources
needed to run an effective campaign.
e. Pray that God gives them divine connections with key
influencers.
f. Pray that there would be great favour upon each of
these candidates and that they would be elected!
2. Pray for the Media.
a. Pray that the incredible influence of the media would be
wielded with fairness, that all reporting would be truthful
and that candidates that stand for righteousness would be
featured in a favourable light.
b. Pray that the campaign advertising would be respectful,
honest and positive.
c. Pray for an end of the hostility towards the church from
the media. Bind all personal biases and fear that motivate
this. Pray for Christians placed in strategic media positions.
3. Pray for the Voters.
a. Pray for a massive mobilisation of the Church of Canada
to vote, to participate in the national discourse over the
issues, and to volunteer. Let apathy be a thing of the past!
b. Pray for a new freedom and boldness to participate in
the election process to come upon the Church.
c. Pray that the pro-family communities of New-Canadians
who may be unfamiliar with who to vote for will have
strong leaders that can articulate the issues and mobilise
these communities for righteousness.
4. Pray for Televised Debates & All-Candidates Meetings.
a. Televised debates are often watershed moments in an election campaign. The warfare is very intense during these pivotal moments. Pray and even fast for the candidates that are standing for righteousness through the debates.
b. Pray also for the all-candidates meetings that will be held in communities all across the nation. Pray for clear, powerful presentations by the candidates standing for righteousness.
c. Pray that the more zealous or radical pro-family candidates will be wise in public statements and positions.
5. Pray for the American Election.
The simultaneous election campaign running in the US will impact Canada as many similar issues are being debated on both sides of the border. In great humility American prayer leaders have asked us to stand with them in this critical hour. Please pray for these key needs that they have shared with us:
a) Unity- the Church is divided over whom to vote for. There are concerns that this will open a door for deeper divisions. Cry out for a spirit of unity to come to the American Church.
b) Life- Pray for pro-life candidates to be elected at all levels of government. Because this administration will appoint a significant number of Supreme Court Judges it is critical to have men and women elected with this value of life.
